These last few weeks I've been crazy busy with travel, school work, and actual work, so I'm looking forward to finally kicking back with some Belgian beer and watching some cool car videos. Might play some video games later as well. What about you Oppo?

Good luck! I've seen it in all of my local grocery stores here in Paris, so hopefully it's as widely available wherever you are. I enjoy it, although if we're talking red fruity beers I prefer the Grimbergen rouge myself.

A bit of both you could say. Main reason is for a visit to the University of Minnesota, but we're also using it to visit the Twin Cities and get a good view of what it's like around the school.

I think so too!

Ahhh college visits. I always enjoyed mine, even though the rental cars were usually garbage and the weather even worse. Any idea what you want to study?
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:25 |

Either mechanical engineering or something fish & wildlife related.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:29 |

dessert picnic is the best kind of picnic. Tho, with 500 trillion mosquitoes, the stargazing might not work
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:32 |

Mechanical engineering is really cool. If I had to go through school again and pick a different major, that'd be my choice. Also my ultimate fallback if nothing I can do with my econ degree fulfills me, or if I'm 70 years old and bored AF.
F&W is cool too. I have a friend who works for the Florida F&W commission and he loves it. Did a lot of crap with lampreys in his undergrad I guess. I don't think I could handle it though.
Either way, should be a good trip. Hope this helps you come closer to a decision. What other schools are you looking at?

Right now the only other school I'm considering is SUNY Cobleskill, it's much more local to me and has a pretty good F&W program. I haven't really decided on if I want to leave NY or not for school.
I really enjoy nature and wildlife so that's something that's really interesting me. I also enjoy science so that's another part that draws me into that.
Mech. E. interests me with the science parts and the many options to do after school. Primarily something automotive/motorsports related.

For what it's worth, I went out of state for school (MI to OK) and I've loved the experience. You grow a lot being so far away from your safety net. It can be tough sometimes, but having the confidence to know you can survive being thrown into a completely unfamiliar situation is invaluable. Not to mention you get to learn all about a different part of the country. Either way, it will be an exciting time in your life, make sure you don't try and rush through it!
![]() 03/27/2015 at 16:51 |

In fairness, that would be pretty exceptionally awesome.

If I do end up going there it will definitely be a fun experience I'm sure. I've been to Minnesota before and it's a beautiful state. Many great places to go for the weekend and just relax next to/on a lake. It is the Land of 10,000 lakes you know! They've also got great hockey in the area and as a hockey fan that's a bonus. Still have one year of HS left to make my decision but I think I know where I'll go if I get in.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:04 |
|
Oooh I love the lake life. Definitely a huge plus in my book. I've never been to Minnesota before, but in Michigan we've got almost as many lakes and better hockey, so I'd say you'll definitely enjoy yourself.

With 7 of my friends.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:16 |

Both Minnesota and Michigan are similar to NY so that's plus. NY's got lots of lakes and some good hockey, hell, a team from NY won the NCAA title last year. So I think staying with what I'm mostly familiar with is a good thing. Bit colder in winter out there but I'm used to Great Lake life so that's not gonna affect me too much.
Michigan's a pretty nice state. Been there a few times, the UP is beautiful.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:18 |

Oh yeah, great lakes all the way. Whereabouts in NY are you? Only area I'm really familiar with is Albany, since my brother and his wife lived there for a few years.

Oswego. It's about 45 minutes north of Syracuse. Port town on Lake Ontario. In between Rochester and Watertown.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:28 |
|
Oh so you're right on the lake then. My parents live on a smaller lake, but we're a decent drive from Huron. Every do any boating on Ontario?
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:31 |
|
No, no one in my family has a boat. I've kayaked maybe 15 feet out but that's about it for boating on the lake. We usually kayak on calm rivers and lakes.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:32 |
|
Oooh kayaking is a great time. What kind of yaks are you into? The long speedy kind or the short spinny kind?
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:37 |
|
We've got 2 12' and one's 9.5' I think, I prefer the longer ones being taller but also because they're a bit more stable. The short one is kinda tough to handle when the water isn't so calm. It's a very relaxing thing to do. Every summer we put in on a river that takes us out to the lake and eat lunch on the beach. I think it's about a mile to the lake from where we put in.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:42 |
|
Nice. We've got one 10' and one 8' sit on top, so the 9.5 seems big to me haha. Sounds like a really good time though. Nothing like cruising down the water with a cooler for a little while then relaxing for a picnic by the water. Makes me miss summer (and home).
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:45 |
|
Yeah, it's a nice feeling. I'm ready for this "Spring" to end and summer to begin.
When de you get home from France?
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:50 |
|
May 19th, about 8 hours before my 21st birthday haha. Then I've got 11 days to adjust back to stateside life and do some summer–worthy relaxing before I get back to work for my last summer before I hit the "real world". Going to be a weird year.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 17:53 |
|
Haha! That's a great time to get home I guess, can do some legal drinking in the US. I'm ready for this summer, I've got a feeling it's gonna be a good one.
![]() 03/27/2015 at 18:08 |
|
Tell me about it. Would have been annoying AF this year with all my friends being at least 21 except for me. 18 is legal here in France though! Any summer plans, or just relaxing?
![]() 03/27/2015 at 19:12 |
|
Mixture of both. The weekend after school ends I'm going to Watkins Glen for some races. Sometime in July I'm going camping up north, and in August I'm going to Myrtle Beach for a week. That's all I've got for now, but the rest is relaxing in the pool while the weather's nice.

Typical Canadian Friday for me, playing some rec hockey, then probably follow it up with some beers. Great to be Canadian, eh!
